How To Take Care Of Brittle Nails At Home: A Simple DIY Guide

🌿 Daily Hydration and Protection

The foundation of healing brittle nails is consistent moisture and shielding them from harsh elements. Dry nails are prone to cracking, so keeping them hydrated is essential.

Moisturize Frequently: Apply a thick hand cream or petroleum jelly around your nails and cuticles throughout the day. For deep hydration, massage warm coconut oil or olive oil into your nails and hands before bed.

To maximize absorption, wear thin cotton gloves overnight. This locks in moisture and improves blood circulation to the nail bed.

Wear Gloves: Water and chemicals are the enemies of strong nails. Always wear rubber or vinyl gloves when washing dishes, doing laundry, or using cleaning products. This prevents your nails from becoming waterlogged or stripped of natural oils by detergents.

🥣 Weekly Soaking Treatments

Incorporating nutrient-rich soaks into your weekly routine can strengthen the nail plate and soften cuticles.

Olive Oil and Lemon Soak: Mix one teaspoon of olive oil with a few drops of lemon juice. Warm the mixture slightly, soak your nails for 10 minutes, and massage gently. Lemon juice helps remove stains and provides Vitamin C, while olive oil deeply conditions. Do this twice a week.

Sea Salt Mixture: Dissolve two tablespoons of fine grain sea salt in warm water. Add a few drops of wheat germ oil, frankincense oil, or lemon oil. Soak your nails for 10–15 minutes to harden the nail plate and add shine. Rinse with warm water and apply hand cream immediately after.

Apple Cider Vinegar Dip: Mix equal parts apple cider vinegar and water. Soak your nails for a few minutes daily to leverage the malic and acetic acids, which have antifungal properties and can help firm up the nail structure.
